Underground. The Underground was actually in two locations on Broadway first at 529 N., then at 515 which was Papagaio's, Club New York, then torn down. Tony Selig ran both clubs. The first one was truly underground - it was in the basement below Peppers. This place was long and narrow, but Tony managed to pack the place with bands and fans. The second version of the Underground was a much bigger venue. Unfortunately, Tony passed away a couple years ago.
